Phonology and Phonetics, although complementary, refer to two distinct fields of knowledge. While Phonetics is dedicated to the description of phones, Phonology focuses on phonemes. Different fields of linguistics not only focus on certain aspects of the language, but they also resort to specific representations. Bearing this information in mind, what is the difference among: p, /p/ and [p]?
