When Arthur pulled out the sword, Excalibur, from the stone where Merlin had put it, he knew he was the king the people were waiting for. He married Guinevere and lived in the castle of Camelot. He decided to fight against the Saxon inaders with his "Knights of the Round Table" With them he also tried to find the Holy Grail, a legendary cup which contained Jesus’ blood.
Many different texts tell Arthur’s story but historians don’t know if he really existed. There are manuscripts which mention a real king in the 5th century but many adventures and heroes in this legend were invented in the 12th century.
