Hello, today, the notion I am going to deal with is spaces and exchanges, in english class, we have studied the tourism and its impact on the environment. Because, nowadays, more and more people are able to travel across the world and, all this people wish to discover the world and its most exotic places.
I will try to answer the following question : “what are the various aspects of tourism?”
To do so, I will use documents that we have studied in class, but also other examples.
—-The Bali’s government economy Is based on tourism. It is one of the most popular destination in the world, mostly thanks to the heavenly aspect of these islands, therefore, hotels are always full and they consume too much water.
The consequence is that the population of bali, which is very poor, doesn’t have access to fresh water and have to browse miles and miles for one only bucket. The groundwater level decreases very fast and jeopardize the future of this region that might get dryer if the water’s over-consumption due to massive tourism doesn’t stop soon.
—- Another “paradise” is threatened by tourism, The galapagos islands, that have been spared from human presence for a long time, welcomes more than 200 000 tourists per year.
This massive tourism put in danger the wildlife of these islands that has one of the most exotic fauna. The giant turtles and iguanas often confuse garbage and plastic with food and can die of suffocation. The chosen solution for saving the wildlife but still allowing tourists to live an extraordinary stay is eco-tourism and limitation of visitors.
—- the next example is the document “should everest be closed?” and it shows us, on one hand, that the wildlife and natural landscapes does not match with massive tourism. Indeed, Mount Everest is the peak of the world, therefore, it is very attractive but this prestige makes a lot of tourist go there. They all want to explore the mountain and live a unique journey, but they throw a lot of garbage that causes the degradation of the landscape. On the other hand, it shows us how tourism can be a solution for a whole country, The nepalese government earns 50 000 pounds per group of hikers, and that’s one of the principal income source of Nepal.
—-The California also benefits of tourism, on 2006, when the tourism record was beaten, it has generated over 1 million of jobs because california had to prepare itself to over 84 millions of tourists in summer.
Tourism generated over 3.7 billions of dollars in one year and it allows this destination to improve and get better over the years.
