I believe that parents should not intervene in the choices of their children's careers because giving children the choice to choose their own careers allow them to live their life they way they want to, in the contrary restricting their choices means restricting their potential.
For example, pushing your child to become a doctor while he wants to become a writer could mean you might deter the next J.K. Rowling from writing a masterpiece. But if you let the child choose their future, they can be given the ability to use their full potential to shape their career.
Today we live in a very meritocratic society. Your choices and abilities ultimately dictate your wealth and power which is why the older generation push and drive their children to become financially successful. This sometimes leads to the point where freedom is neglected and replaced with bureaucratic education, where you study to be successful, not to learn and live your life they way you want to.
Taking this in mind, we begin to grasp why pushing the young into "meaningful" careers gives the image of taking away their freedom.
