I think children are too young to start a diet. Parents shouldn’t encourage their child to be on a diet but to eat healthy food and not too much fast food or candy. Once the children reaches teenage, he can decide either to start getting on a diet or not.

if the child has a problem with overweight, it is best to encourage him to follow a diet.

There’s a difference between being overweight and obese
I think that parents who are encouraging children to diet are wrong because the diet isn't good for a child who is growing up. The body needs food, nutriments, proteins, glucose, sugar and without enough of these the child could be tired or even he won't be as developed as he should be.
Usually the children ( 12-14 y ) start a diet because they think they are overweight compare to what they can see on the social medias and then they start a diet to be skinnier. Encouraging them in their diet is a proof that they need it.

Diet can then become anorexia.
