My heart is racing even faster. It wasn't paranoia after all! I started shouting: "Let go of me!". But the hand tightens around my ankle. I then try to fight back, but it has the opposite effect: I fall backwards and tumble down the stairs. The adrenaline makes me feel no pain at all. I get up and start running. Thanks to my fall, the hand no longer holds my ankle. I reach the front door, and as I'm about to open it to escape, a crazy impulse makes me want to turn around and see what ghost or monster has grabbed me.
Just as I turn around, I hear a voice, a much softer one than what I thought I would hear :
- "But my darling, what's happening to you?"
My mother was staring at me, her eyes filled with confusion.
