to discover them. In British Columbia, our goal is to make every child count
on the best possible start and to continue on the path of good habits for the rest of his life. As
As teachers, you are in the best position to educate young people about the benefits of physical activity and
healthy lifestyle habits. You can motivate them to make healthy choices today and help them learn
knowledge and skills that will lead them to healthy habits from which they will benefit throughout
throughout their life.
Studies have shown that one in four children aged 2 to 17 in British Columbia are overweight
or suffer from obesity. The number of overweight teenagers has doubled in the past 25 years and the cases
obesity have tripled. The good news is that we're working together to make healthy choices
become the easiest choices.
We are pleased to bring you this learning resource as part of Act Now BC, an initiative
government to encourage citizens to make healthier choices by being more active, eating more
healthily, living smoke-free and avoiding alcohol during pregnancy. This resource complements the
10th grade Health and Career Education and Planning Curriculum
.
It has been concretely tested by teachers in the province in real classrooms. We hope this
tool will help your students live better and eat better.
