Bonjour, après les vacances, je passe mon oral d'Anglais du bac. Pour la notion lieux et formes de pouvoir j'ai écrit ce que je souhaite dire mais ca me parait assez long, j'ai vraiment besoins d'avis , merci :)
This year, we studied the concept of places and forms of power. As for me, to have power is the fact to be able to influence the other and do what you want. It exist the power of language, of media, of public opinion or the power of politics. A power can be exercised in an emblematic institutional place. To illustrate this notion, I would like to talk about the struggle of women and African American for their rights.
We can ask how do people fight for their rights against the power of the others?
In a first part, I'm going to talk about the different ways of struggle of African Americans for their rights during the segregation and the second part will be devoted to ' Girl Power ' and feminism.
During segregation, politics power was used against African Americans. Between 1876 and 1964, Jim Crow's laws legalized segregation and from 1865 to 1866 black codes reduced their rights. But African Americans decided to fight, they used many ways to achieve recognition. Many artists used the power of words to try to promote the African American art. A famous example is the poem “I Too” by Langston Hughes who describes a slave who works for a white family, after, we understand that the slave is going to be free. In her novel, Uncle tom's cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe also used this power. In the extract which we read, a young white boy teach to the black slave how to write. It's the opposition in what we think about slavery. This novel had a profound impact on the mindset towards African Americans s.
In his engraving ''dark laugther'', Harrington denounce the way in which blacks were perceived in the US in the 1960s. Some black people have chosen the pacific protest. The most famous example is the one of Rosa Parks, who was arrested because she sat on a “white person” bus seat. After her arrestation, the African American decided to boycott the bus company. The other fight without violence as for instance, MLK who delivered a famous speach, I HAVE A DREAM.
Now let's talk about another struggle. Girl power is a feminist movement which support women's independance strength... Spice girls popularized this slogan in the 1990's to promot gender equality and human's rights. We wachted a video clip by the feminist groups ' the global goals' who recreates Spice girls' song 'wannabe' to highlight women rights. Such as all feminist groups, they fight for an equal pay for an equal work, for gender equality and they wish that violence against women and child marriage ended. Another people fight for women's rights, for example , Beyonce who re-enacts one of the most famous poses of rosie the riveter on a poster for awareness campaing of the feminist cause. We studied another song 'she's leaving home ' by the beatles. This song is a real story about a young girl who far away from her parents in 1967. The link with Girl Power could be the emancipation or independence of women. In the 1960's, women expressed their frustrations more strongly. In this Part, I would also like to mention Aly Raiseman. This Women was a famous gymnast and was sexually abused by Larry Nassar who was the Doctor of the US gymnast team. She delivered a poignant testimony in which she said that now, it's Larry's turn to hear her. She considers herself as a Survivor. She wants fight for those things will never happen again.
Finally, African Americans fought for their rights for a long time with or without violence. After many years slavery and segregation were abolished and the right to vote for African Americans was set up.Their situation has improved, but racism and discrimination still exist. As far as women are concerned, their emancipation has already passed several stages like the right to vote, the right to abortion... but the struggle for their rights is not over yet, gender equality does not really exist.
