Thanksgiving is celebrated in the US every fourth Thursday of November every year (le 4éme jeudi de novembre chaque année aux US)
I's a National Day , a family Day and a Holiday Day.
L'histoire de Thanksgiving // its origin En résumé, c'est un hommage aux pèlerins (pilgrims) who ran away from England because of religious convictions with the Mayflower. They arrived in New England in the States after an awful trip (it lasted 3 months) and founded the Plymouth colony in 1620 with the Mayflower. It was very cold, they were a few to get there, were very hungry, illness and starvation had killed lots of them. However, they were welcomed by the Amerindians who taught them fishing, hunting, agriculture .... And at the end of the harvest, at the end of summer , the Pilgrims invited the Amerindians, who had helped them to survive, to a huge feast (festin) : it was the celebration of the first harvest . (they were celebrating the first harvest (moisson). . It's meant to be the first Thanksgiving.
Then, to make it short, Georges Washington declared it as a National Day after the Independance War but it's Abraham Lincoln who took the decision to celebrate it every fourth Thursday of November in 1863.
Nowadays , Thanksgiving is as important as Christmas.
Si tu as des questions , j'essaierais d'y répondre ....
