Places and forms of power
I'm going to talk about the notion « Places and forms of power ». First of all, I would like to give a quick definition of this notion. The power is a strength exerted or capable of being exerted. Power is synonym of might. In politics and social science, power is the ability to influence the behavior of people. In order to live together, members of a community accepts rules, regulations and laws. This helps to create social cohesion can also lead to conflicts and tensions. Even, when authority seems absolute, there are always conter-power with question it, aim at limiting it excesses. What are the ways of representing power and how can we limit it ? To answer, I'm going to talk about the power presents in several place and on the other hand the ways taken by some singers who denounce power through their song.
Power of arms
a) In the street
The drawing represent the power of arms in the street
* We can notice that there are an exageration of arms
* Arms was bigger than characters
This drawing proves that everybody could be killed : the man on the bottom who was killed by three man ---> exageration of gun
It shows also that everybody could be touch by this violence because we have a young boy who write the word « Kill » on the wall ----> violence of words who embody death and blood
b) on the Tv
The Tv shows the also the violence and it could have some consequences as :
* Little children could be touched and be afraid
* They can have a bad behavior after
* It could increase murder
* Can affect people. Could be more aggressiv
The gang life
We have an another way of violence : The gang
The creation of Gang beginn in the 18th century
consequence : - crimes especially in Manathan at that time
* 1st gang : The forty thieves (1820-1850)
* 2nd gang : The bowery boy ( 1840-1860)
* 3rd gang : The dead Rabbits (1850)
* 4th gang : The Daybreak Boys (1840-1850)
All these gang comes from Ireland, most of the members were immigrants.
This violence embodie the power of fear. The more people were scared the more gangs power was growing. It's also the power of bussiness because it's their cover.
Counter power
a) Protest song
It exist some singers who denounced this form of power. For example Green Day with their song 21 guns.
Prostest song about war wich targets peace in the world
The only result of war is pain and loss so we can say that war it's not very necessary
This song is a clue ; refers to the salute when a soldier died we shot 21 shoots of guns.
Example in the song :
« Do you know what's worth fighting for ? When it's not worth dying for ? »
There is no point fighting in war especcialy if someone doesn't believe in the reason of war
« Lay down your arms, giveup the fight » Talks about surrendering and starting a more peaceful way of life.
To conclude, we can say that even if the violence is everywhere, in the street, in the TV... Everyone could be touch by that. We know also that, some famous singers denounced this violence through their song.
