Agatha Christie was an English writer of crime and detective fiction. She was born on September 15, 1890, in Torquay, Devon, England, and died on January 12, 1976, in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, England. Christie is best known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, as well as the world's longest-running play – The Mousetrap. Her works have been translated into at least 103 languages. Christie's writing career spanned more than half a century and she is considered a master of suspense, plotting, and characterisation. She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1971.
