1. Les deux sens des modaux.

Lisez les phrases suivantes et associez à chaque emploi de « must » le sens qui lui correspond : obligation (sens 1) ou probabilité (sens 2)

1. There were eight notIces […] two specified that the applicant must speak English.
2. Have a look at the map! I think it’s in Clapham and it must be near the tube.
3. She must be a little older than you. 18 or 19 maybe

2. Degré de probabilité: du moins certain au plus certain.
Lisez les phrases suivantes. A l’aide de l’explication donnée entre parenthèses, classez les modaux du moins certain au plus certain puis traduisez.

1. Hey , we might be cousins (Perhaps we are cousins but I’m not sure)
2. You must be crazy (You’re certainly crazy! I’m almost sure)
3. Oh, I see. No, we can’t be cousins. (It’s impossible! I’m absolutely sure)
4. But we may soon become friends ( It’s possible)
