Para essa pergunta, é interessante que você busque o esclarecimento do significado de níveis tróficos, cadeia e teia alimentar. Enfim, o fluxo de energia é unidirecional porque no invés dele se renovar, ele vai se perdendo. Por exemplo, eu tenho uma cadeia alimentar composta por uma árvore, uma veado campeiro e uma onça. O fluxo de energia que foi captado pela árvore por meio do processo químico denominado fotossíntese, já não é o mesmo que o do veado campeiro. A energia vai se perdendo, porque a árvore usou parte da energia (solar) para suas necessidades. Por esse motivo não temos cadeia alimentares compostas de muitos seres, porque a energia vai ficando cada vez menor. Espero ter ajudado, um abraço.

Resposta: Porque a energia flui em apenas um sentido, do produtor ao decompositor. Na transferência de um nível trófico a outro não há retorno.
