The symbolism of the shadow is linked with death, danger, mystery, corruption and perversion in sex and alcohol. The dark aspects of light will be the symbols usually associated with the shadow that will be associated with the light. The symbolism of light can be associated with positive notions such as life, happiness, serenity, virtue and purity. The shadow and the light are opposites, but this could seem contradictory, these two notions depend on each other. Shadow would not exist without the presence of light, and light would not have the same value if everything were light. These opposites attract and create each other: after night, there is always a day, which is followed by another night and so on. So light and shadow follow each other and intertwine, metaphors of the ambiguity of life and psychological tears. Usually, in the landscapes of the world, the shadows are the muffled echo of an intense light. They animate the reliefs by appearing as fleeting and indecisive as memories... Passive, they seem heavy, tired, dominated by the peril of the evening or by the tormented depths of the earth. On the other hand, in pictorial representations, the shadows, formerly rendered in painting by earths or by misty colors, appear blue, just like the luminous edge that separates the sky from the horizon, just like the air, the hills and the trees in the distance.
