The idea of progress I’m going to talk about the notion of “idea of progress”. I decided to approach the notion from a social point of view, because in the context of my English classes we have focused on blacks in diverse period of the history. Thus, I have raised the following question: What has been the evolution of the Black man in the history of United States? First things first, let’s talk about slavery. Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619. In fact, in the early 17th century, European settlers in North America turned to African slaves as a cheaper, more plentiful labor source than indentured servants. Black slaves worked mainly on the tobacco, rice and indigo plantations of the southern coast. As we can see in the movie “12 years a slave” that I’ve seen last year, slaves were treated like beasts. They were bought by owners who did not hesitate to beat them sometimes until their death. At the time, people did not consider black men as humans. It will be necessary to await the arrival to the presidency of Abraham Lincoln so that finally the slavery is abolished with the 13th amendment in 1865. However, Blacks were far from victory. Indeed, a group met in 1865 to form a secret society of white men, dedicated to resisting laws giving blacks the same rights as white; called Ku Klux Klan. Members wore white robes with hoods to hide their faces. The Klan, used terrorist tactics, as coming out at night in their white robes and sometimes carrying fiery torches. Klan members beat and murdered people whom they opposed, hanging by the neck from a tree was a common method of lynching opponents. This method inspired the poem Strange Fruit de Abel Meeropol in 1937, which is transformed into song by Billie Holliday in 1939. Moreover, 11 years later the South introduced Jim Crow’s laws. These laws were aimed at recreating a system in which the black man would no longer be free, but again inferior to the white man. It was the birth of segregation and in the South, lynching became a real tradition for Blacks. Nonetheless, thanks to some people like Rosa Parks who is known because she refused to give up her seat as Jim Crow’s laws demanded or Martin Luther King who is known for his famous speech “I have a dream” in front of the Lincoln Memorial, the condition of Blacks has evolved. They achieve their missions because in 1964, the president Johnson signed the Civil Right Act which gives to Blacks same rights as Whites. Finally, and it's quite ironic given the history of the US with blacks, but on November 4, 2008, Barack Obama, a black man, is elected president of the USA. However, in his speech on race that we have listen in class, he is aware that it is not because he is elected president that America has completely changed. It reminds us that racism and discrimination, although less visible than before, still exist. To conclude, I will say, that today, many people think that the world had involved enough in social terms, and that the only progress to do is in sciences. But they are wrong, they are again social progress to make. Indeed in 2017, there are still 19 unarmed black men killed by police in the USA.

To get what we want, we must fight. However, we have the choice on how we want to lead this fight.Thus, I have raised the following question: What are the diverse ways to dispute the power?I’m going to talk about two groups of people who fought for the Right to Vote, but they did it in diverse ways.Let’s first talk about the Suffragette. My first document is the trailer of “Suffragette” a movie of Sarah Gavron that I’ve seen last year. In this trailer the drama tracks the story of the women of the early feminist movement. Those resisters were forced to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a government more and more violent. So, they turned violent and radical too, because they realized that it was the way to change things. They wanted, as men, to get the right to vote. Thus, in 1903, Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters created the WSPU, the Women's Social and Political Union, also named Suffragette in Manchester, to defend rights of women. At the beginning, this movement was pacific, but it became violent from 1910 because of the British government who refused to support women suffrage. Women began organized riots at demonstration with window's smashing. But they were arrested for public disorder and they were put in jail to several days or months. However, the prison did not scare them. Indeed, once out, the women resumed their radical actions. For example, they caused fires or cut off the telegraph wires. They will even attack the Prime Minister directly by vandalizing his house. Finally, at the end of the war, in 1918 an act of parliament eventually implemented the right to vote for women, but it was under some conditions. So, women kept fighting again, and their fight bore their fruits in 1928.A few years later, another community also fought for this same right to vote and more broadly for equality between men: black community. However, they felt that for them the best way to get what they wanted was certainly not violence. Thus, in 1955, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her place on a bus as the laws of Jim Crow demanded, the black community of Montgomery in Alabama, decided to show his flush against the segregation by boycotting the buses as we heard in a recording in class. From there, Martin Luther King decides that it was time for black Americans to wake up. He then takes the head of the Civil Rights movement. In class, we watched a documentary about the last 5 years of MLK's life. In this documentary, we could see that Martin refused to be associated with violent acts. For him, violence did not overcome anything. You had to be smart. He kept organizing marches like Selma’s one, giving speeches like the famous "I have a dream" in Washington in front of the Abraham Lincoln memorial. In this speech, the Reverend King recalls that Blacks must keep hope because one day, their time will come. And he was indeed right, because in 1964, President Johnson signed the Civil Right Act giving blacks the right to vote and at the same time ordering desegregation.To conclude, I would like to say that power is something good. It allows us through laws set up to live in community while respecting others today. However, this has not always been the case and there are films to remind us of these fights.

To begin with, I would like to give a definition of this concept: the notion of spaces and exchanges can be understood as the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. To illustrate this, we may wonder if a gap year can be a rewarding experience. We will see in a first part the origin of the gap year and in a second part we will see his advantages and his drawbacks. First, a gap year is a year when you decide to take a break from studying to travel or volunteer. It’s a year off before entering university, gappers can escape the stress of exams and school. It has become more and more popular since the 90s, in the UK and in the USA. We studied a text about the British government, which managed to pay for a trip for graduates who didn’t have enough money to travel overseas. They want to give gappers opportunity to discover another country and cross cultures. The goal of this action is to improve and promote rewarding leadership skills required in the workplace among young professionals. A gap year presents a lot of advantages. First, travelling around the world, while you travel you can meet people and discover new culture. It's a rewarding experience for students because they can do volunteer work and help poor people, moreover students can learn a foreign language. We studied two cases in class: Fiona and Jason. These are two students who wanted to go to foreign countries to help the inhabitants. Fiona wanted to help children in Kenya by fighting illiteracy. She wanted to do something meaningful and worthwhile. Jason wanted to break out of his rut by joining an agency which teach Indian students mathematics and English. However, one of the major problems is money, indeed parents may not support the travel and hotel cost. The other disadvantages concern your own feel, you can be homesick about missing your family and your friends for a year. To conclude, I think a gap year can be a rewarding experience for students. Even if on the one hand a gap year cost a lot of money. The things that you see and the people you meet during your travel can teach you something that you won't learn in lessons, indeed you can comeback a better person and become open minded.

In order to live together members of a community accept rules, regulations, laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. Even when authority seems absolute, there are always counter-powers which question it. That’s why in the context of our English class, we have focused on some people who have contest the power and I have raised the following question: What are the reasons which urge us to dispute the power? To answer this question, I will first talk about the suffragette before to talk about Blacks Civil Right movement. The first document is the trailer of “Suffragette” a movie of Sarah Gavron. This movie tells the story of an ordinary woman who join the suffragette movement. It must be said that before the end of the 19th century, women were “dominated” by men, and it was normal for everyone. But since this period, women want equality. For example, despite the abolition of slavery by Abraham Lincoln, discrimination against the Blacks between 1865 and 1965 was shameful and shocking. It was the time of the Jim Crow Laws. These laws forbidden to Black to be by Whites side at the school, bus, restaurant, etc. A black man and a white woman were not authorized to married and have children. So many people fighted for freedom and equalities between Black and Whites like Rosa Parks, who said “no” to this Jim Crow laws or Martin Luther King, with his famous speech “I have a dream” who incited to keep hope. Thank to determined and tough people such as Martin Luther King, the blacks achieved the abolition of the Jim Craw Laws and got Civic Rights even if the racism is also present. They change the course of History and the condition of Blacks today, by contesting the power in place. To conclude, I would like to say that power is something good. It allows us through laws set up to live in community while respecting others today. However, this has not always been the case and there are films to remind us of these fights.

Es ist ein Synonym von Stärke, Herrschaft und kann verschiedene Formen annehmen. Im Unterricht haben wir viele Dinge über Macht, die zu diesem Thema beziehen. Man könnte fragen was sind die verschiedenen Anwendungen der Macht? Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, es zu bekämpfen? Ich werde zuerst über den Kalten Krieg und die Berliner Mauer zu versuchen, zu verstehen, welche Macht vor Inspiration aus dem Lied Udo zu zeigen, dass es Wege gibt, herauszufordern Macht zu sprechen. Seit einigen Jahren untersuchen wir die Geschichte von Deutschland und Berlin während der vielen Weltkonflikte. In diesem Jahr waren wir besonders daran interessiert, im Kalten Krieg. Die Berliner Mauer ist ein Symbol. Es „bietet eine bemerkenswerte Demonstration des kommunistischen Systems.“ Dieser Satz wurde von Kennedy auf 1963.06.26 in der gleichen Rede, dass seine berühmten Satz ausgesprochen „Ich bin ein Berliner.“ Die Wand stellt einen Gegensatz zwischen zwei Formen der Macht. Auf der einen Seite der kapitalistischen Westen und der andere Ost-Kommunismus. Es ist seit langem wissen wir, dass die Macht der kapitalistische Block ausgeübt war die richtige Leistung. Die Leute waren es frei, sie ein bequemes Leben und glücklich geführt. Im Gegensatz dazu wurde bekannt, dass der kommunistische Block „schlecht“ Macht ausgeübt. Die Leute waren nicht glücklich, Lebensbedingungen schwierig waren. Sie taten alles, zu entkommen und dem Block im Westen zu verbinden Allerdings, schon lange in der Geschichte, rebellierten die Völker auf verschiedene Weise und aus mehreren Gründen. Sie protestieren gegen politische Systeme oder Situationen, wie Kriege. Viele Menschen haben um die Meinungsfreiheit und Pressefreiheit gekämpft und haben mehr Gleichheit zwischen Armen und Reichen oder zwischen Männer und Frauen verlangt. Dennoch können wir auch friedliche Formen der Rebellion durch Worte oder Kunst finden. Der Kunst ist ein guter Weg, um eine Mitteilung zu vermitteln. Zum Beispiel studierten wir ein Lied von Udo Lindenberg heißt Mädchen aus Ostberlin. In diesem Lied ist Odo politisch engagiert und er kritisiert das politische System. Er träumt von Frieden und Freizügigkeit. In der Tat waren Manschen in DDR gezwungen zu in DDR bleiben und sie sich waren trennen. Anschließend möchte ich sagen, dass Macht ist etwas sehr abstrakt für mich. Ich verstehe immer noch nicht, wie es funktioniert. Seit einigen Jahren ändert sich nichts. Und ich denke, dass in Frankreich mit dieser Wahl, es ist Zeit, die Dinge geschehen zu lassen. Wir müssen die Politiker verstehen, die Macht, die sie führen nicht gut ist.

Mythen und Helden Ich möchte über den Begriff „Mythen und Helden“ sprechen. Dieser Begriff des Thema kann viele Personen illustriert werden. Im Unterricht haben wir viele Personen, die zu diesem Thema beziehen. Man könnte fragen, was ist ein Held? Inwiefern sind sie einflussreich? Zuerst werde ich manche berühmten Mythen und Helden vorstelle, die Geschichte gemacht bevor über Helden des Alltags sprechen. Man erkennt ein Held, weil er sein Leben auf das Spiel sitzt. Er hat keine Angst vor dem Tod. Ein Held ist auch mutig, berühmt und ist ein Vorbild für viele Leute. Ein Held macht auch etwas Wichtiges für ein Land oder für die Menschen. Zum Beispiel kann man sagen, dass Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Ghandi, Kennedy usw. Helden sind. Sie helfen und retten andere Leute. JFK war eigentlich ein intelligenter Mann, der viel Charisma ausgestrahlt hat. Er kämpfte vehement gegen den Kommunismus, hat sich für die eingeschlossenen Leute im amerikanischen Sektor der Berliner Mauer eingesetzt und war grundsätzlich gegen Krieg. Seine Rede auf 1963.06.26 „ich bin ein Berliner“ ist immer noch berühmt und sogar studiert. Er hat die Kubakrise nicht auf militärischen Weg gelöst wie viele Militärs ihm geraten haben, sondern den Konflikt auf diplomatischer Ebene gelöst. Viele meinen ja auch, dass Amerika gar nie am Vietnamkrieg beteiligt gewesen wäre, wenn JFK nicht ermordet worden wäre... Deshalb finde ich, dass er ein guter Präsident war aus politischer Sicht. Allerdings sind die Helden nicht nur Menschen, die große Dinge erreichen. Es gibt Helden, die kleinere Einflüsse haben, aber dennoch gelingt, die Leben einiger Menschen zu ändern. Dies ist insbesondere dann der Fall von Pina Bausch. Ihr Tanztheater verändert das Leben von Joy Wonnenberg. Dies hat ihm erlaubt, sich wohler mit Menschen zu fühlen, zu Ausdruck und mehr Vertrauen haben. Die Pina Bausch Projekt erlaubte es ihm, über sein Leben besser zu fühlen. Dies ist auch die Tatsache, ein Held zu sein: Menschen zu helfen, mit dem, was wir haben. Alles in Allem bin ich der Meinung, dass ein Held mehr als eine Person ist. Ein Held ist ein Vorbild und hilft andere Leute z.B. Konrad Schumann kann man als Vorbild ansehen. Er hatte den Mut, ein totalitäres Regime trotz der Auswirkungen zu entgehen, die er selbst wusste, dass ein Offizier sein. Aber es war nicht der einzige. Viele Menschen sind Helden.

Raum und Austausch Ich möchte über den Begriff „Raum und Austausch“ sprechen. Dieser Begriff kann durch das Thema « Vielfalt und Integration und Einwanderung » illustriert werden. Im Unterricht haben wir viele Dinge, die zu diesem Thema beziehen. Das wirft die Frage nach wie Einwanderung das Leben der Menschen verändert auf? Im eine ersten Teil werde ich über den Film „Almanya“ sprechen und in einem zweiten Teil über die Einwohner von Osten nach Westen zu gehen. Der Film von Yasemin Şamdereli erzählt die Geschichte einer türkischen Familie Mann, der in den späten 60er Jahren beschlossen, nach Deutschland mit seiner Frau und Kinder zur Auswanderung zu arbeiten. Zu der Zeit, die deutsche Wirtschaft hatte Hand benötigen ausländische Arbeitskräfte. Hüseyin hat deshalb ergriff die Gelegenheit und trat Deutschland. Für ihn und seine Familie war das Land ein Synonym für besseres Leben, gute Lebensbedingungen und höhere Einkommen. Der Ursprung des Films ist die Frage „bin ich Deutsch oder Türkisch“ von dem kleinen Sohn von Hüseyin gestellt. Der Film präsentiert auch irgendwie die Frage der Identität. In dem Lager besitzt die Einwanderer? Tatsächlich nur der Großvater und die Großmutter erinnern wirklich Türkei. Durch den Film realisieren wir die Schwierigkeiten, die Familie zu treffen. Die erste ist die Sprachbarriere. Aber es ist ein notwendiger Aufwand in die Lage erforderlich in den Aufnahmeländern zu integrieren. Hier haben wir mit der Geschichte einer Familie zu tun, die zur Auswanderung entschieden hat. Doch alle Menschen haben nicht unbedingt eine Wahl. Dies gilt vor allem für Menschen, die in DDR waren. Die Zuwanderung von 2,7 Millionen Menschen nach Deutschland von West nach irgendwie durch das kapitalistische System an Ort und Stelle zu der Zeit gezwungen worden. Das Leben in Ost-Deutschland war schwierig und Freiheiten eingeschränkt wurden. Also das ist, warum viele Menschen keine andere Wahl gehabt haben, aber die Berliner Mauer zu überqueren, ihr Leben riskieren, bessere Lebensbedingungen zu finden und einen Anschein von Freiheit wiedererlangen. Dies ist der Fall eines deutschen Offiziers Konrad Schuman berühmt wurde, nachdem er von Ost-Berlin zu fliehen über Stacheldraht sprang zu haben. Er hatte den Mut zu fliehen und sagen zu diesem antidemokratischen System stoppen. Diese Periode der Geschichte hat einige Leute ihre Spuren hinterlassen, wie Konrad begehen Selbstmord endete mein Druck nicht unterstützt über. Er konnte nicht nach seiner Flucht in einem normalen Leben zurückzukehren. Abschließend denke ich, dass manchmal Einwanderung ist eine effektive Lösung, wenn Sie keine andere Wahl haben. Allerdings ist die Frage der Migranten heute ein Thema viel diskutiert und problematisch. Aber es muss für Migranten in Kraft gesetzt werden. Die meisten dieser Leute sind, die keine andere Wahl haben, ihr Land zu verlassen, weil der Krieg, Armut usw. Sie denken zu oft und dass in den Industrieländern bei der Ankunft, während dies würde verbessern. Dies ist jedoch nicht unbedingt der Fall ist und die Integration für sie oft schwierig ist.
