Radical or even violent, the interventions of the "Iron Lady", in the press or during speeches, were in the image of his reputation of intransigence.  her quotation "There is no such thing as society." would be that the society is not responsible for all difficulties met by families, beacause society does not exist.

"There is no such thing as society." may be one of Margaret Thatcher’s most striking quotes. In September 1987, in an interview with Woman’s Own magazine, the Conservative Prime Minister (Head of Government) said: "We have arrived at a time when too many children and people (...) reject their problems on society. And who is society? It does not exist! There are only individuals, men and women, and families."

So individuals should take their own responsibilities for their problems, because there are theirs and not the government's so not the (British) society.
