Ellis Island est une station d’immigration au large de la côte de New York. La majorité des gens faisait le voyage en bateau vers New York et devaient faire une escale à Ellis Island. Une fois que les passagers étaient dans l’île ils devaient passer des examens légaux et médicaux pour pouvoir poursuivre leur chemin jusqu’à New York. Certains étaient acceptés et d’autres rejetés, c’est pourquoi Ellis Island était surnommé « l’île de larmes ».

Ellis Island is a station of immigration off the coast of New York. The majority of people made the boat trip towards New York and had to call at Ellis Island. When the passengers were on the island they had to take legal and medical examinations to be able to pursue their way to New York. Some were accepted and others rejected, that is why Ellis Island was nicknamed " the island of tears ".
