Write a letter to your older self, describing your life today and imagining what it will be like years from now! Add pictures and small objects from your daily life and seal everything in an envelope. Keep it for the years to come – and open it when you’re older! Maybe some parts will come true?

STAGE 1: Start the letter
Start with the date and place and a greeting. It can be casual or more formal, according to the style you want to give your letter.

STAGE 2 : Write the body of your letter

1) What is your main message? Write about who you are today, your life, your achievements, your hobbies…
• I'm now a senior in high school [in Marseille].
• I play [rugby/the violin] 3 times a week, but my goal is to [run a marathon/write short stories] by the end of the year!
2) Focus on imagining your future life. Try to be as detailed as possible. But you don't have to be too serious – keep it fun!
• I am now a teenager but when I read this letter, maybe I will be a grandfather/mother. I will spoil my grandchildren and teach them funny tricks.
• Am I married? Oh wait! I might be single and travelling the world with my backpack.
• At 64, I am sure I will still be as handsome/beautiful and intelligent as today!
3) You can also ask yourself important questions…
• I wish I could already know the answer to all the questions I have about my life. You see I'm hesitating between becoming a doctor or a football player. What should I do?
STAGE 3 : Finish off your letter

1) Wrap up with a short conclusion.
• Well, in sum… / To conclude, I think I am…
• I think writing to my older self was a strange experience, but it made me think about my future!
• I hope this letter won't get lost before I'm 64.
2) Sign off.

You can use “Love” even if you're not writing to your boyfriend or girlfriend!
Ex: Lots of love means “sending you kisses” / “xx” means “kisses” / “xoxo” means “hugs and kisses”…
