Le past perfect (had + p; passé) énonce une situation antérieure à celle déjà énoncée au prétérit.
1- Until 1848, nobody had found gold in California.
2- It was the first time Alexander Weiss had visited Angel Island.
3- The prospectors were exhausted, they had worked for do many hours.
4- When he saw the chines poems he decided to make the place a historic landmark.
5- After James Wilson Marshall had discovered gold, prospectors rushed to California.
