Bonjour j'aurais aimé une correction de mon oral d'anglais I am going to talk about the notion of Myths and Heroes. First of all i would like to give a definition of a myth which can be a traditional story concerning the early history of a people or explaining a natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. But it also something that many people believe in but that is false or doesn't exist. The myth is a popular belief or a story that has become associated with a person, institution, etc., and which can convey the ideals of a given society and create inspiring heroic figures. In the United States, the most powerful defining myth is the American Dream. Does the American dream is a reality or a myth ? To answer these questions, we will see the different myth concerning the American dream and if this notion is really true . The American dream means that all people living in the united states can, through his work, his courage, and his determination, be successful even start from scratch. We studied an extract from newsweek written by alan Zarembo called « why the caged bird sings ». Anna is a Mexican who crossed the border illegally at the age of 29. She first took a job in a laundry, she worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for 200$ a week. But it was still eight times what she earned in Mexico. Then she worked as a maid. When she has manageD to have enough clients she is now a successful broker for illegal cleaning women and earns $50,000 a year because her business is out off books. So thanks to the USA she achieved to became rich and she can help her family in Mexico. Actually the reality is quite different. The American dream is one of the biggest reason for which people migrate to USA but most of the time the dream won't became true. For instance we studied the testimony of a young girl:Maricela. She is a Mexican immigrant, she went illegally in the USA at the age of three. In hight school she was cross country captain, graduated in the top 5% of her class. As all other students she has great expectations get a job help others and herself. However she realized that maybe her sacrifices were useless because she's undocumented. Actually she could be deported in her native country. In comprehension oral we also saw a man who did not achieve his American dream. He is from Cuba and he went in the USA thanks to a smuggler. He thought that he will became rich, have a big house, a good job but he was wrong. Now he is undocumented and he can't saw his son grow. He is stuck in the USA, alone and hopeless. In both document the American dream stayed a dream. The American Dream is maybe only a myth because today the United States of America may only be no longer a land of opportunities because of the current crisis. However it's perhaps just a myth but some famous people achieve their american dream such as Steve Jobs with apple or Oprah Winfrey is a pure incarnation of the American dream because, started with nothing, she became one of the most influential woman of the country so you still have to try.
