Bonjour voici mon oral d'anglais sur la notion power pourriez vous me corriger et me dire si il y a des choses qui ne va pas. Merci d'avance. The notion I am going to deal with is the power. First of all I will give you a short definition of this word. It is the ability to control people and events, in other words it is the capacity that you have to influence. For example we have many different form like internet, the education, the knowledge,.. To illustrate this notion, I have chosen three documents. Through two caricatures and a journal’s article, I will to show you the power of media and social media like facebook that everybody have access. But I will also show you that it can be a dangerous weapon if they were used by malevolent peoples. Today, the media's take a big place, he represents an important power in the world. With them you can be informed about the events in the world like political events, wars, etc... But not really. I have chosen a caricature who illustrate that. To describe, there is a man who is wearing a CNN jacket who is painting an arab person with a dove and olive branch. But the person who is posing have a weapon and on his hand there is blood. The author want to show us that we mustn’t always believe to what we see on news. The reality disturb them, they hide, they show them what the peoples want to see like they hide the wars with slogan of peace in this cartoon. It’s scary, because they are sharing distorted information and peoples haven’t awareness, they don’t know what is really happening in the world, they are manipulated. But by who? I think that secret organisation or even some states are behind this because CNN is just a media they can’t do this for anything, they are paid to do that. Another cartoon that i have found on a website illustrate that. We can see obama behind a big army who are holding many different flags, on this there are the logo of different media like BBC, Google, ABC,etc… It reinforce the power of some states. We can use the expression ‘soft power’ because they don’t use the violence to convince. Secondly, I will talk you about the power used by islamic states to mislead the young european to become terrorist. I have found in the journal entitled ‘canada-radio’ an article who explain how a psychologue and professor in UQAD named Ghayda Hassan make his experience. He had created a fake account on facebook and in two weeks he could enter in contact with Omar Omsen who was the principal recruiter of young french for the djihad in syrie. They use the power of the social media because it’s easily accessible by the young people. Then he said they are many people (terrorist with fake account) who add him and make compliment because he will convert and make djihad. They make the young feel confident. Then they promise wifes in paradise, etc… They use the art to convince it’s an other form of power. I think that the terrorists search isolated and easily influenced young people. To conclude, i will say that we must be vigilant with media’s because it’s often a manipulating thing. We mustn't fastly believe on an information when you see, you must verify on the other media. Social media is helpful because everybody have access and some people can denounce the reality even if the majority believe because they are known media. They are used by islamic states to create an army but how to fight against them?

The notion I am going to deal with is the notion of progress. First of all I will give you a definition of this notion. The progress refer to the fact of improving or developing something.There is several form of progress, for example in medicine, technology,.. These progress are changed and continue to changing our world because we are always in the progress.But we can ask ourselves if the progress have just a positive aspect.Today internet is the biggest progress in the world. It’s is an virtual platform. We can consider as a second world because on internet you can do many things that you make in the real life, for example you can buy clothes,food,chat with your friends who lives in other countries with social media like facebook. Internet make the life easier. Everybody have access with the development of new technologies like the smartphone. At first, I have chosen to show you one of the advantages of Internet and secondly the danger of this platform. There are many advantages of internet like we have seen you can easily buy something that you want. But i think most interessant is the easily way to communicate. Sometimes it is very important and internet can save lives. The french journal entitled ‘liberte’ published in 2003 an extract who illustrate this. Indeed in haiti, after an earthquake, in the same year at the city Boumerdès, all of the way of communication are cut, like mobile phone. It was a big problem because they can’t asking for help.Fortunately Internet work with a satellite.A journalist who survive, had asked for help, denounced the damages caused by the earthquake via his twitter and skype account. Theses informations are shared on many others social media like facebook which is originally of many donation. But there is also the dark side of Internet in this situation.Internet can be used by bad people to make disorder. From the same article these persons move into action to steal the money destinate to the sites who collect to help Haiti. Now, I will speak you about another danger of Internet who was more important. Today, I have said that everybody have access to internet this is why i will speak about the children because they are the most vulnerable. The big danger of internet is the fact that everybody can be anonymous,some people take advantage like the bad person's who use fake identity to commit crime. Internet is a threat for the children because there are many child predator. Like the caricature that I have chosen to show us. It’s an illustration made by daniel mitchell. We can see on this a child is surfing on Internet with a laptop who is the mouse of a snake. On this laptop there is also the sharped teeth who characterise the child predators. In conclusion, I think that the progress of Internet have big advantages, some people's live through Internet like the youtubers. Internet have a big part in our daily, we are all the time on this but there are many danger. We must to fight against them but how ? I think with education, education is an important form of power.
