(pluperf. continuous, pret simple) b) I/ to read my lesson/ can do this exercise. (present perfect simple, present) c) Partridge/ to be in on the murder's night/ can kill Mr.Brandford. (pret.simple ; probability past) 3/Express a condition : Mind the tenses ! a) Jonh / to buy (present) a mobile phone /he/ to phone his wife every now and then. b) Fennimore/ not to grease (pluperf.) his mechanical arm/ sherlock Holmes/ not to suspect him. c) Jenny/ to recover her purse (pret.simple) / can finish her shopping. d) Napoleon / to suspect the arrival of the Prussians/ the British Army not to win at Waterloo. 4/ Probability in the past : Make sentences according to the degree of probability between brackets. a) He -to escape- the police. (40%) b) She -to be on time. (2%) c) THe kids - to beat the grown-ups. (63%) d) They spent three hours on it ! They -to finish- this exercise- sheet now.
