Its name is due to the fact that, on the map, it drew a figure similar to a triangle, involving three continents such as America, Europe and Africa.
It was called the triangular trade because of the three legs of the journey.
The first stage was the journey from Europe to Africa where goods were exchanged for slaves.
The second stage was the transport of slaves to the Americas. He was nicknamed
the "middle passage".
The third leg of the journey was the transport of American goods to Europe.
The slaves were sold in exchange for pearls and guns, then were taken across the Atlantic to the
plantations and they were bought by the planters.
Merchants who traded in this way could become very wealthy.
