Exercice 3 Faraday's Experience In 1834, Faraday studied electrical current in liquids. He put two different pieces of metal called electrodes into a solution. As he saw one electrode being destroyed (anode), and the other on getting bigger (cathode), he thought that matter was moving through the solution. "Ion" means "going" in ancient Greek. Faraday didn't know what an ion was, but he knew that it is electrically charged. He also discovered that two types of ions exist: anions, going to anode (linked to positive pole of generator), and cations going to cathode (linked to negative pole). 1.
