Je prépare mon oral en anglais sur la notion "Idea of progress" (idéé de progrès) et j'aimerai que quelqu'un corrige ma fiche de synthèse svp. Merci d'avance !

In order to start my presentation about the notion “The idea of progress”, I will, first, define this notion. The idea of progress basically consist in believing that the world can become better in terms of art, sciences, technology and liberty. But a progress isn’t always good, it can be a negative progress. Hence, the progress is a matter of some debates and we should ask the following question: What is the positive and negative aspect of science ?


First, I believe that the purpose of science is knowledge. It allows us to know better the world surrounding us to control it better. For my part, it satisfies my curiosity. Then without science, there is no progress, but without progress there is no comfort of life (care, transport, means of communication). We will still live naked in caves. The human being so needs science to live, it is necessary for him, where from the importance of the jobs which lean on the science as in the field of the medicine. Then, it allows to answer in food necessity of the increase of population in the world by a more plentiful production of food. We can illustrate all that we said by a concrete example: we notice that in the countries where the science is lesser, for example the very low (weak) countries of Africa, a big poverty and a development of the country. On the contrary, in the countries of Europe or the United States, where the science is at the maximum, we notice one level of very high development accompanied with a very big comfort of life about which we cannot complain. To finish, we have seen the film Gattaca where we show us the possibility of choosing the genotype of the children in the future to cure people. This shows the strength of the science.

Nevertheless, it is necessary to recognize negative aspects of the science and not the slightest. First of all, the science is at the origin of more and more effective and dangerous weapons which have echoed on the population. We can see the example of the nuclear weapon on Fukushima. Moreover according to the newspaper Fox News, this event made more than 20 000 dead people. It is one of the negative aspects which affects me a lot. Then, and it is the biggest concerns (marigolds) and the most worrying nowadays, the science has for consequence the pollution and the exhaustion of raw materials and this will not be improved with D. trump's election. So since the development of the science, we are victims of a global warming.
To finish, in the extract of the book « My Sister's Keeper » we can see The ill-being of the born children genetically modified through the testimony of a little girl Anna Fitzgerald which wants to sue her parents for the rights to her own body. This thus shows the moral limit of the science.

In synthesis, nevertheless, I think that the science is necessary in our societies. It is thus necessary to continue to develop it but one taking into account the negative effects which it engenders not to destroy the planet on which we live. The science is neutral; it has neither negative aspect, nor positive aspect. It is its application, it is to say the technology which can return of uncountable services (departments) to the human being or destroy him downright.
