Bonsoir Je prépare mon oral en anglais sur la notion "Places and forms of power" (lieux et formes de pouvoir) et j'aimerai que quelqu'un corrige ma fiche de synthèse svp. Merci d'avance ! The notion I’m going to talk about is “places and forms of power”. First of all I’m going to define this notion. In politics and social science, power is the ability to influence the behavior of people. In order to live together members of a community accept rules, regulations, laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. During the History, women had of fight to assert their rights, and it continues today. So, to illustrate the notion, I’ve chosen to talk about the power and the evolution of the women's rights with the following problem: How have women's rights evolved in our societies ? First a male domination … Before the 19th century, women had no rights in society and in their family. She was either under the responsibility of her father or husband. In class, we studied on the Victorian Britain (mid and late 19th century). At that time, laws were put in place that further restricted women's rights, like the Divorce Act in 1857, in which it is indicated that Men can divorce on the grounds of adultery but not women. On Richard Redgrave's painting named "The Outcast", we see that the main figure is about to throw away his daughter and her newborn out of his house because she had an “illegitimate child”. We see that the rest of the family are against that, but we understand that the patriarch makes all the important decision. An unmarried mother in the Victorian society has no means of survival yet they sacrifice her to save their ethical values. With this picture we understand that women didn’t have rights and the power is to the man at this time. II. … then a growing affirmation of women's rights At the end of the nineteenth century many voices were rising for women's rights. Men have lots of rights that women don't have. We studied on “Made in Dagenham”, a film directed by William Ivory inspired by real events, tells the first strike, in 1968, of the workers of the Ford factory of Dagenham, in the suburbs of London. A historic three-week struggle to achieve equal pay for men and women. These new unpublished claims led to the adoption of several laws aimed at putting women and men at the same level. For example, the Matrimonial Property Act of 1968 established the principle of equal pay for equal works, and abortion, divorce and contraception became possible. So there is a real change in attitudes and an assertion of women's rights in society. Today, the society has evolved and with that the places and forms of power have also changed. A few months ago, bursts one of the most resounding scandals of the 21st century about sexual harassment. Then in the whole world, hashtags as “#Metoo” or “#BalanceTonPorc” have allowed a release of women speech, who can then speak more easily about their attackers like Mr. Weinstein. So, women became with their voices a form of power. To conclude, over times the fights for women’s rights, the places and forms of power have evolved. They allowed women to make their voices heard and assert their rights. Today, they can still make their voices heard thanks to the importance of social networks. However, there are still many women in the world who are deprived of their rights, as in India or in Iran ...

Bonsoir Je prépare mon oral en anglais sur la notion "Idea of progress" (idéé de progrès) et j'aimerai que quelqu'un corrige ma fiche de synthèse svp. Merci d'avance ! In order to start my presentation about the notion “The idea of progress”, I will, first, define this notion. The idea of progress basically consist in believing that the world can become better in terms of art, sciences, technology and liberty. But a progress isn’t always good, it can be a negative progress. Hence, the progress is a matter of some debates and we should ask the following question: What is the positive and negative aspect of science ? First, I believe that the purpose of science is knowledge. It allows us to know better the world surrounding us to control it better. For my part, it satisfies my curiosity. Then without science, there is no progress, but without progress there is no comfort of life (care, transport, means of communication). We will still live naked in caves. The human being so needs science to live, it is necessary for him, where from the importance of the jobs which lean on the science as in the field of the medicine. Then, it allows to answer in food necessity of the increase of population in the world by a more plentiful production of food. We can illustrate all that we said by a concrete example: we notice that in the countries where the science is lesser, for example the very low (weak) countries of Africa, a big poverty and a development of the country. On the contrary, in the countries of Europe or the United States, where the science is at the maximum, we notice one level of very high development accompanied with a very big comfort of life about which we cannot complain. To finish, we have seen the film Gattaca where we show us the possibility of choosing the genotype of the children in the future to cure people. This shows the strength of the science. Nevertheless, it is necessary to recognize negative aspects of the science and not the slightest. First of all, the science is at the origin of more and more effective and dangerous weapons which have echoed on the population. We can see the example of the nuclear weapon on Fukushima. Moreover according to the newspaper Fox News, this event made more than 20 000 dead people. It is one of the negative aspects which affects me a lot. Then, and it is the biggest concerns (marigolds) and the most worrying nowadays, the science has for consequence the pollution and the exhaustion of raw materials and this will not be improved with D. trump's election. So since the development of the science, we are victims of a global warming. To finish, in the extract of the book « My Sister's Keeper » we can see The ill-being of the born children genetically modified through the testimony of a little girl Anna Fitzgerald which wants to sue her parents for the rights to her own body. This thus shows the moral limit of the science. In synthesis, nevertheless, I think that the science is necessary in our societies. It is thus necessary to continue to develop it but one taking into account the negative effects which it engenders not to destroy the planet on which we live. The science is neutral; it has neither negative aspect, nor positive aspect. It is its application, it is to say the technology which can return of uncountable services (departments) to the human being or destroy him downright.

Merci d'avance ! In order to start my presentation about the notion Myths and Heroes, I will, first, define those notions. Myths are popular beliefs or traditions which often relate phenomenons or situations to heroes, gods or magic. A hero is a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character or a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal. So by analysing those notions "myth and hero", we will try to answer the following question: Can artists be heroes ? I. Artists denouncing Music is the way to express facts, feelings and ideas. People have written protest songs to speak about political and social issues. We studied last year the "work songs". A work song is a piece of music closely connected to a form of work, either song while conducting a task (usually to coordinate timing) or a song linked to a task which might be a connected narrative, description or protest song. The workers denounced through these songs slavery and their "masters" thanks to "Let My People Go" (denounces black slaves, mostly children in a cotton field). Protest songs have also denounced, war, poverty and inequality. There are supported peace and civil rights. In class, we quickly saw several singers. For example, Bob MARLEY a singer who was born in Jamaica, he lived in a ghetto and he was poor. In his most famous song which is entitled " get up stand up ", he calls the black people to fight for their rights and denounces some aspects of the colonization. So for me, some singers as Bob MARLEY or John LENNON (criticizes the Vietnam War) are heroes because they fight for values. II. Artists who act to change things In addition to the artists who denounce behaviors (especially musicians / singers), there are artists who act directly to defend causes, to change opinions. The "stars" are today very followed by the media or on social networks, and they have a great influence with their fans but also in the world. Some take advantage of this notoriety to share a message or defend a cause that is important to them. Thus we can take the example of a heroine, Emma Watson, a feminist, who inspires courage through her fight against inequalities between the sexes. I think this is a real example for young girls and even young boys to claim their rights. She delivered a speech at the UN (ONU) in 2014 as a goodwill ambassador to promote feminism equal rights and opportunities for both men and women with the “HeforShe” campaign. She fights for equal pay, access to the contraception pill or abortion, access to the leadership, politics … So artists can use their fame and popularity to mobilise people to stand up against problem in our societies, and that’s why they can be heroes for me and for the people who are concerned by their actions. To conclude, artists can be heroes when their actions play a role in the opinion of people, their ways of thinking, as E. Watson wants to do ... Heroes can also be a symbol of freedom. Indeed, they represent a people or a group of people excluded from society, as "protest songs" helped to fight racism against black people with Bob Marley or Martin Luther King. They allow to denounce inequalities, "bad" behaviors ...Certain person after their death, fascinates even more the people, their became a Myth, like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and more others.
