Bonsoir
Je prépare mon oral en anglais sur la notion "Places and forms of power" (lieux et formes de pouvoir) et j'aimerai que quelqu'un corrige ma fiche de synthèse svp. Merci d'avance !

The notion I’m going to talk about is “places and forms of power”. First of all I’m going to define this notion. In politics and social science, power is the ability to influence the behavior of people. In order to live together members of a community accept rules, regulations, laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. During the History, women had of fight to assert their rights, and it continues today. So, to illustrate the notion, I’ve chosen to talk about the power and the evolution of the women's rights with the following problem: How have women's rights evolved in our societies ?

First a male domination …

Before the 19th century, women had no rights in society and in their family. She was either under the responsibility of her father or husband. In class, we studied on the Victorian Britain (mid and late 19th century). At that time, laws were put in place that further restricted women's rights, like the Divorce Act in 1857, in which it is indicated that Men can divorce on the grounds of adultery but not women. On Richard Redgrave's painting named "The Outcast", we see that the main figure is about to throw away his daughter and her newborn out of his house because she had an “illegitimate child”. We see that the rest of the family are against that, but we understand that the patriarch makes all the important decision. An unmarried mother in the Victorian society has no means of survival yet they sacrifice her to save their ethical values. With this picture we understand that women didn’t have rights and the power is to the man at this time.

II. … then a growing affirmation of women's rights

At the end of the nineteenth century many voices were rising for women's rights. Men have lots of rights that women don't have. We studied on “Made in Dagenham”, a film directed by William Ivory inspired by real events, tells the first strike, in 1968, of the workers of the Ford factory of Dagenham, in the suburbs of London. A historic three-week struggle to achieve equal pay for men and women. These new unpublished claims led to the adoption of several laws aimed at putting women and men at the same level. For example, the Matrimonial Property Act of 1968 established the principle of equal pay for equal works, and abortion, divorce and contraception became possible. So there is a real change in attitudes and an assertion of women's rights in society.
Today, the society has evolved and with that the places and forms of power have also changed. A few months ago, bursts one of the most resounding scandals of the 21st century about sexual harassment. Then in the whole world, hashtags as “#Metoo” or “#BalanceTonPorc” have allowed a release of women speech, who can then speak more easily about their attackers like Mr. Weinstein. So, women became with their voices a form of power.

To conclude, over times the fights for women’s rights, the places and forms of power have evolved. They allowed women to make their voices heard and assert their rights. Today, they can still make their voices heard thanks to the importance of social networks.
However, there are still many women in the world who are deprived of their rights, as in India or in Iran ...
